This book is absolutely beautiful - engaging writing, amazing pictures, helpful descriptions, detailed directions, interesting historical anecdotes; all really well packaged, organized and incredibly inspiring and irresistibly tempting. Just the book alone is wonderful, but the idea/anticipation of actually visiting some of these remote shelters in their windswept glens is infinitely better... I see many, many trips in my future needed to fulfill this desire.
I WENT TO THE HIGHLANDS EVERY YEAR FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS. PARTLY TO PLAY GOLF, PARTLY MY "ROOTS", AND FINALLY FOR THE LANDSCAPE THERE. AM NOT A HIKER BUT WANDERED A BIT. MY SON IN LAW IS DIRECTOR OF A MT SEARCH & RESCUE TEAM HERE SO WHEN HE SAW THIS HE GOT ALL EXCEITED, BEGAN LOOKING FOR TICKETS.IT IS GREAT BOOK EVEN FOR THOSE WHO ARE MOSTLY READERS..
Oh my gosh, this makes me want to spend a couple months just traveling around Scotland. I want to make it to all of them! The book is Well written with easy-to-follow information, directions, beautiful pictures... a total find.
An excellent, thoughtfully written and presented book, my only concern is that such a bible will only encourage unwanted plebs to use these bothies which were, certainly from I was using them, known only by word of mouth. Oh the good 'ole days... gone forever!
I'm using this as a coffee table book right now, to remind me of my trip to the beautiful Scottish Highlands. If you are planning on hiking the Highlands, this is a great reference if you'd like to experience staying in a bothy. Informative, and great pictures!
